Coach Tom Shaw Performance
In high school, Tom Shaw's coach was Kevin White, the guy who's now the athletic director at Duke University after leaving Notre Dame University. Whit... Moree taught Tom about training, and Tom still carries those lessons with him today when he trains the greats. Like the 10 of the last 12 SuperBowl MVP's, countless athletes training for the NFL combine, Nike Football Training camps and SPARQ testing.
But let's rewind. To get to the pinnacle he's at today, Tom has a Bachlor of Science degree, a master's degree in exercise science from Central Michigan University. While he was there, he competed for 5 years in sprints and jumps on the track and field team. After a stint coaching high school football and track, Tom moved on to Florida State University as an assistant track coach and sport speed coach for many sports. Eventually he took his knowledge of speed to New Orleans to work with the Saints, and then to the New England Patriots as their Assistant Speed and Conditioning coach, working under the best in his field Coach Mike Woicik. Coach Shaw was part of a team that won three out of four SuperBowl rings. And now Tom's down in Florida at ESPN Wide World of Sports, putting athletes through specific drills to help make them more powerful and explosive so they can impress the coaches at the NFL combine and on NFL teams. He puts as much time in training high school and grade school boys and girls as he does with the pro players. Coach Shaw prides himself as a teacher, he wants everone he works with to know. "Different guys run different ways, but as long as you are explosive and as long as you are powerful, you are going to be faster."
